Long time, no blog. Finally we have completed our shipping and we have settled in for the winter months, mostly in down south. So let’s dive into some horses running today at Fair Grounds and Turfway.
Race 6 - Fair Grounds
We have a couple in what is a pretty short field here. Two Minute Drill comes out of a stake at Keeneland where believe it or not she lost both front shoes in the running of the race. We have taken some measures against that this time so that shouldn’t be a problem today. I feel like the route should suite her just fine as she is big in statue and covers a lot of ground with her stride. As a handicapper, I feel you get decent odds when a horse tries something new AND I am a big, “2nd time vs. winners” player myself so take a swing here if it were me. On to our other entry, we are trying her long again mostly because there were no other race options that were filing between here at Kentucky. Her race at Remington was visually impressive as she showed the ability to rate inside and finish. We had changed some equipment on her as well prior to her win via advice from Donnie K who took her for a couple months in Oklahoma and it has also appeared to help. All of that said, she needs to step forward again here today but hopefully she does just that.
Race 5 - Turfway
While most of our runners have made it south, we do a few Turfway runners left. First out of the box for us is Southern Crush. Crush’s debut left us hopeful as we knew it was the wrong surface and distance but the lack of turf options left us with little chances for grass. He made a nice move inside of horses through the turn but when the running started he was just spinning his wheels in the dirt and he grinded home. That said, his gallop out was big and his works since have been more of the same. Unsure how he will handle the tapeta but the plan is for John to take a long hold and pick him up as he goes. I expect the Casse to be the big favorite but I also think the Cox is very live in there. Outside of those two nothing scared me on paper.
Good luck to all those playing!
